Hello, my darlings. Today I wanted to talk to you about why you should let your preschooler use scissors. I know it is a scary thing to let your kid use scissors. They can use scissors to cut hair, clothes, them selfs, their siblings, and pretty much anything they can find. But that is why you need to teach them how to use them, and if you let them use scissors in a fun way, there is a smaller chance they will use them as a weapon of choice during wrestling. So here are the reasons you should let your preschoolers use scissors.

Practicing fine motor skills. Cutting seems like the easiest thing to do. But in reality, it takes a lot of patience and a lot of hard work to learn. It takes a lot of finger strength to hold a paper with one hand while holding the scissors in the other hand. it takes a lot of focus, bilateral coordination, and strength.

Teaching them to cut the right things will probably stop them from cutting the wrong things. If you find time to work on your kids scissors skills, they will eventually learn what they can cut, and what they absolutely should not cut. Of course, kids will be kids, and from time to time you will find them cutting things they shouldn’t , but they will eventually stop.

Cutting uses bilateral coordination. Cutting uses bilateral coordination, which means that it uses both sides of the body.

Cutting improves hand-eye coordination. Cutting really improves their hand-eye coordination which is really important in the early school years. It is a very important skill for preschoolers to develop, and cutting is a super simple way to practice it.

Preschoolers love cutting things. Lets be honest, cutting with scissors is one of the favorite things kids love to do. So instead of hiding your scissors, buy them a little ones in schools supplies, and start cutting things with them. You can let them cut out old magazines, news papers… You can also find free printable on Pinterest so you can have plenty of things for them to practice their scissors skills on.

And just to be safe, while they are learning, keep scissors in a safe place, and only let them use them while you are in the room. You never know what they will use scissors for, and kids have a wild imagination.
