Parenting advice for raising boys

Being a boy-mom can be very overwhelming, loud, messy, and overall chaotic, they can make you go insane, and melt your hearts in a matter of minutes. But they also give the sweetest hugs and kisses, and can sometimes be more cuddly than girls.

When I gave birth to my son, I was terrified, and I didn’t know what to expect, I just got used to having a girl, and didn’t know anything about being a boy-mom. So after 5 years of experience of being a boy-mom, I wanted to share some parenting tips with you for how to raise boys.

Embrace his energy.

Boys tend to have more energy than girls, and they need to get that out of their system. So instead of trying to make them sit still, get them outside a let them run around, and jump, and climb trees, and roll in the grass, they will sleep better, and there will be less mess in the house.

Don’t assume that putting something high, will stop them reach for it

If you think for one second that putting something high will stop them from reaching out for it, you are dead wrong, They are smart, and they are not afraid to climb those kitchen cabinets to reach for it.

Always check pockets of their pants before putting them in the washing machine

Boys tend to put everything and anything in their pockets, so always make sore to check for those hidden treasures.

Let him play with all sorts of toys

Just because he is a boy it doesn’t mean that he can only play with cars, gun, robots, and lego, let him explore other toys, maybe he will enjoy more playing with dolls or other none boy toy.

Get a dog

Consider getting a dog. That way they will have a buddy for reselling and running, and a dog will also help pick up all those crumbs boys tend to leave around the house, so there will be less mess for you to clean, and having a pet will also teach them to be responsible and compassionate.

Don’t just assume that they are going to use the soap

Just because they know how to use the soap, it doesn’t mean that they will willingly use it. And it’s our job as moms to teach them early on that personal hygiene is very important.

Let him play with dirt, rocks, and sticks

Well, the known fact is that boys love to get dirty, and that is perfectly fine. They love playing in dirt and sand and with sticks, so it’s important to let them.

Teach him to use a napkin, and not his shirt

One of the challenges of being a boy mom is teaching them the difference between a napkin and a sleeve because to them it’s the same thing, they don’t see the difference.

Always have a first aid kit with you

When you have a son, having a first aid kit is mandatory. If you are a boy mom, I don’t have to explain to you why.

Embrace the minimalist lifestyle

When you become a boy mom, you learn not to have too many nice stuff around the house, because they will break them. So embrace less is more rule until they grow up.

Teach them that is ok to embrace their emotions

It’s important to teach our boys that crying is perfectly normal, and they don’t have to be ashamed of it. They are allowed to feel all those emotions, and not suppress them, just because they are boys.

Teach them to pee sitting down

Whoever said that boys should pee standing up has never had to clean after them. They can pee standing up when they learn the importance of aiming.

Don’t compare him to anyone

It’s important to stop comparing him to other kids, every child is different, and he shouldn’t feel like he competes with anyone.

Let him make mistakes

Instead of fixing everything for him, you should let him figure out things on his own.

Enjoy some one on one time him

Spending alone time with your son will help you develop a stronger bond with him.

Hug him a lot

Hug him as much as you can, and as often as you can, they need that physical touch to feel safe. And they give the best hugs in the world.

Let him know that he is perfect just the way he is.

He is your little boy, and he always will be, and you should let him know that he is perfect just the way he is.
